Homecoming 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment

Thursday 3rd December 10.00am
Worcester Cathedral and Worcester Guildhall

It was a priviledge and pleasure to be asked to witness the homecoming of the 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment. We arrived at the appointed hour and after a short period, processed to the cathedral. I took my seat and had a perfect view of the service that followed. One of the enduring moments of that day was the sight of hundreds of our brave soldiers, standing still against a background stained glass.

and then process to the Cathedral

A very memorable sight

one candle was lit for each of the 5 soldiers of 2nd Battalion, who did not return

for the parade, every viewpoint was full

every inch of pavement covered with feet of every size and shape

hands were claped, cheers sung out

The Right Worshipful  The Mayor or Worcester, Cllr Andy Roberts, formally welcomes the troops back to Worcester at a reception in the Guildhall for family, friends and invited guests

and finally, the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Mr Michael Brinton presented medals to some of the battalion.
A very moving day and one I was very pleased to witness.
