From time to time, the Chairman is asked to facilitate a meeting, between officers of various departments and council tax payers within the district. In this instance, residents wanted some explanation of a planning decision that originally had been for acceptance by officers.
At the council meeting of the development control committee, elected members considered the report and refused the application. This left the council open, to have the decision tested, by the applicant appealing against the decision made. A government inspector looked at all the facts and makes a final decision. The inspector considered the decision made by the councillors to be incorrect and allowed the appeal. While I do not intend to go into the details of this particular meeting, I hope those residents present now have a better understanding of the reasons why certain decisions are made and while not happy, do know a lot more of the process.
