The Mercian Regiment is honoured and thanked by the people of Redditch.
Guests, followed by the regiment march to the newly named ‘Mercian Square’ for a service of thanksgiving and remembrance.
The crowds had really turned out in force and considering the dreadful weather , reinforced the support for the ‘lads’
The attending civic party, led by Mr Michael Brinton, Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, taking the salute.
The band led the way
Followed by Mascot Private Derby
and bringing up the rear, the Royal British Legion veterans
We then travelled the short distance by car to the Abbey Stadium for a reception.
Opening remarks of welcome from Mayor of Redditch, Cllr Malcom Hall.
Which was responded to by Colonel Colin Marks
Gifts were exchanged
and medals presented to seven soldiers, by Her Majesty’s representative, Mr Michael Brinton, Worcestershire Lord Lieutenant.
This was followed by the formal signing of the Freedom Charter by Cllr Malcolm Hall, Colonel Colin Marks and Mr Kevin Dicks, Redditch Borough Council CEO.
